LG Window Air Conditioner Troubleshooting

The air conditioner may be operating abnormally when:

Problem: Air conditioner freezing up.

Possible Causes: The cooling coils are iced over.

What To Do : Ice may block the air flow and obstruct the air conditioner from properly cooling the room. Set the mode control at High Fan or High Cool with thermostat at 1or 2.

Problem: Water drips outside.

Possible Causes: Hot, humid weather.

What To Do : This is normal.

Problem:  Water drips indoors

Possible Causes:  The air conditioner is not tilted to the outside.

What To Do : For proper water disposal, make sure the air conditioner slants slightly from the case front to the rear.

Problem:  Water collects in base pan

Possible Causes:  Moisture removed from air and drains into base pan.

What To Do : This is normal for a short period in areas with little humidity; normal for a longer period in very humid areas.

Problem: Room too cold.

Possible Causes: Set temperature too low

What To Do : lncrease set temperature.

Problem: Air conditioner turns on and off rapidly.

Possible Causes:

  1. Dirty air filter – air restricted.
  2. Outside temperature extremely hot.

What To Do :

  1. Clean air filter.
  2. Set FAN speed to a faster setting to bring air through cooling coils more frequently.

Problem: Noise when unit is cooling.

Possible Causes:

  1. Air movement sound.
  2. Window vibration – poor installation.

What To Do :

  1. This is normal. If too loud, set to lower FAN setting.
  2. Refer to installation instructions or check with installer.

Problem: Air conditioner does not cool as it should

Possible Causes:

  1. Airflow is restricted.
  2. The temp control may not be set correctly.
  3. The air filter is dirty.
  4. The room may have been hot.
  5. Cold air is escaping.
  6. Cooling coil have iced up.

What To Do :

  1. Make sure there are no curtains, blinds, or furniture blocking the front of the air conditioner.
  2. In COOL model,press the DECREASE pad.
  3. Clean the filter at least every 2 weeks. See the care and Maintenance section
  4. When the air conditioner is first turned on, you need to allow time for the room to cool down.
  5. Check for open furnace floor registers and cold air returns.

Problem: Air conditioner does not start

Possible Causes:

  1. The air conditioner is unplugged.
  2. The fuse is blown/circuit breaker is tripped.
  3. Power failure.
  4. The current interrupter device is tripped.

What To Do :

  1. Make sure the air conditioner plug is pushed completely into the outlet.
  2. Check the house fuse/circuit breaker box and replace the fuse or reset the breaker.
  3. If power failure occurs, turn the mode control to Off. When power is restored, wait 3 minutes to restart the air conditioner to prevent tripping of the compressor overload.
  4. Press the RESET button located on the power cord plug. If the RESET button will not stay engaged, discontinue use of the air conditioner and contact a qualified service technician.

  • E1 Temperature sensor failure.
  • E2 Failure in the indoor temperature sensor.
  • E3 Abnormal operation protection error.
