When troubles occur, please check the following points before contacting a repair company.
Problem: Poor Cooling Performance
Possible Causes:
- Temperature setting may be higher than ambient room temperature
- The heat exchanger on the indoor or outdoor unit is dirty
- The air filter is dirty
- The air inlet or outlet of either unit is blocked
- Doors and windows are open
- Excessive heat is generated by sunlight
- Too many sources of heat in the room (people, computers, electronics, etc.)
- Low refrigerant due to leak or long-term use
- SILENCE function is activated
Solution:
- Lower the temperature setting
- Clean the affected heat exchanger
- Remove the filter and clean it according to instructions
- Turn the unit off, remove the obstruction and turn it back on
- Make sure that all doors and windows are closed while operating the unit
- Close windows and curtains during periods of high heat or bright sunshine
- Reduce amount of heat sources
- Check for leaks, re-seal if necessary and top off refrigerant
- SILENCE function can lower product performance by reducing operating frequency. Turn off SILENCE function.
Problem: The unit is not working
Possible Causes:
- Power failure
- The power is turned off
- The fuse is burned out
- Remote control batteries are dead
- The Unit’s 3-minute protection has been activated
- Timer is activated
Solution:
- Wait for the power to be restored
- Turn on the power
- Replace the fuse
- Replace batteries
- Wait three minutes after restarting the unit
- Turn timer off
Problem: The unit starts and stops frequently
Possible Causes:
- There’s too much or too little refrigerant in the system
- Incompressible gas or moisture has entered the system
- The compressor is broken
- The voltage is too high or too low
Solution:
- Check for leaks and recharge the system with refrigerant
- Evacuate and recharge the system with refrigerant
- Replace the compressor
- Install a manostat to regulate the voltage

Just installed my new Midea MAW12HV1CWT, 12K BTU Inverter Window Heat Pump to replace my non-functioning Friedrich 12K BTU wall sleeve unit in my walk-out basement. The Freidrich served me reliably for well over 15 years. Swapped the starting capacitor – but no joy with the compressor coming back on.
The new Midea started up great, but I was underwhelmed by the cool air output compared to the 8K BTU U-Shaped Danby (Midea) AC in the upstairs bedroom window. But after running the new AC for less than 15 minutes, it stopped, and displayed the EL OC error code. I shut it down, unplugged the AC line cord, and waited 10 minutes before re-plugging back into a dedicated AC outlet. I couldn’t find any reset button. It re-started OK, so I set the temperature to 64 degrees. It was running for about 15 minutes, then shut down and now is displaying the EL OC error code again. I suspect that when UPS handled it, they probably caused internal damage (maybe a coolant leak). The carton corner was caved in, the bottom sealing tape was loose, the staples were almost popped open, and it was probably dropped on it’s side next to my garage door when UPS delivered it. Does this sound to you like fatal internal damage with the EL OC error code? Thanks in advance for your help.
